Lousy Weather killed the Saturday Race event, but we did get to race on Sunday. It started out cloudy and gray but was great by race time.

Thanks to all the out of town racers and fans that came and enhanced the Sunset Speedway show. You always add to the entertainment and value.

The Big Story, as usual, The Weather. Dark Gray Skies and Humid conditions, produced a smaller than Normal Crowd for the Moffatt’s Northwood Mazda night of Racing at Sunset Speedway.

The hi-light for the night was the #79 Owens Corning Mini Stock of Nicole Podewils who completed the Hat-Trick with two heat wins and the feature win. The lady was a rocket out there… Congratulations Nicole.

All Heats and the Mini Stock feature were completed before the rains set in. Sunset Speedway will have double features for the TIM-BR Mart Super Stocks and the CGC Sheetrock Late Models on August 28.

The Muggy, Overcast and Poor Weather Forecast may have kept the fans at bay, but the racing Action was Here and Here to stay. Stout car counts in all divisions led to some intense battles that the fans in attendance certainly enjoyed.

Spectacular Racing on Saturday Night. The Very Large crowd, including the Watson’s Building Supplies group, saw the #51 Owens Corning Mini-Stock driver Kevin “Hackit” Van De Beek, continue his dominance in the Features. The #44 of Dave “The Deuce” Doucette capture the TIM-Br Mart Super Stock Feature and The #11 of Chris “Mr. Excitement” Morrow snag the CGC Sheetrock Late Model Checkered Flag.

Summer Slam Weekend

The Ontario Sportsman series visited Sunset Speedway on Sunday July 18 as did the Stefko Engine Thunder Car series. After practice and getting in the Heats for the Thunder Cars and the Owens Corning Mini Stocks, rain started to fall during the OSS Time trials. After an Hour of drying the track the time trials were completed. The OSS race started and just as the Checkered flag fell the rain began again which caused the end of the rest of the show. The Stefko Thunder feature has been re-scheduled for the September date and the Owens Corning Mini Stocks feature for another date.
